Enlisted in the Army on February 15, 1943 at Spokane, Washington after completing one year of college. Joined the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Lewis, Washington. Later, served at Camp Hale, Colorado; Camp Swift, Texas and in Italy. Assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, Company D and later to the 85th Infantry Regiment, Company L.
